SHIH FU TSU - TAIJIQUAN
(THE WAY OF HARMONY) by Ten Carr
TEN died Harare
Sept 2005, he will be missed by many students and friends
Taijiquan was introduced
into China abou 540 A.D. by an Indian Buddhist
priest named the Bodidharma (Tamo in Chinese.) At this time the Shaolin
order was formed. At the time of the building of the Temple the emperor's
gardeners had just planted new trees, so the temple was named "young"
( or
new ) forest, in Chinese Mandarin Shaolin and Sil Lum in Cantonese. The
result was that the Shaolin monks then translated Yoga from sanskrit.
The
monks who prior to the Bodidharma had not been fit, were turned into a
displined group who defended themselves without weapons. They were never
the attackers having been trained in the art of how to avoid conflict
and
their skills allowed them to carry out their work as healers.

Taijiquan covers a broad spectrum from conception to infinitiy. Apart
from it"s health benfits ,which are many, it assist people to adapt
more
easily to change by understanding that all is creation and the most
important factors of life are communication and LOVE.
Ten Carr was born to parents who had a strong interest in Yoga and
herbal medicine. At the age of four Ten was crippled following an accident.
He was then introduced to Yoga and what we now call T'ai Chi Ch'uan. Ten
was
trained by many teachers over the ensuing years and realised that the
training was almost identical to that used by certain orders of Irish
monks
in the Middle ages. At the age of 37 Ten had developed his own style known
as Shih Fu Tsu (The Works of the Man Ten. ) The most important of Ten's
study were 20 years with the most important all Swami Nisrecyasananda ( a
follower of Vivikananda) whose monastery specialized in a long form of White
Crane. Ten is qualified as 10th Rank Grand-Unarmed Master. Ten is recognised
by the Dalai Lama as Bodidharma.

T'ai Chi Ch'uan is not just one
subject, there are a variety of approaches, so anyone thinking of taking
up the practice of T'ai Chi Ch'uan would do well to watch a class first,
consider how the subject is explained and what the general atmosphere
is surrounding the class. To aquire a long Yang Form you are going to
have to attend classes for 2 - 3 years, so it is important that you feel
at ease with the teacher, the classes and the other students.
