Musicamp 2001

Preface

The original Story of Musicamp stopped in 1988, the year of our twenty-fifth anniversary, and when we held our Musicamp in 2000, I wondered about those twelve intervening years; questions such as "Who were our guest conductors?", "Which works were performed?", "Where were the Musicamps held?", "Were there any memorable incidents, performacne or recitals?", "Has the structure of Musicamp changed?" and whether we are still adhering to the Objectives of Musicamp as laid out in our constitution-namely to stimulate interest in music among the youth of this country: to promote musical proficiency through individual and group perfroamces: to foster musical appreciation: to facilitate and enhance the performance and appreciation of music.

Dame Molly Gibbs was our Patron from 1964 until her death in 1997 and during the years I was chairman I used to send her an account of our Musicamps in which she always showed an intense interest and support. When, in 1998, the committee elected me as Dame Molly's successor as Patron I felt extremely honoured and privileged to hold such a position.

This further Story of Musicamp is more factual than anecdotal but I hope that what you read will bring back happy memories, an appreciation of the many things we all learnt from our visiting conductors and, above all, a determination to keep Musicamp going-whatever the difficulties we have to face-for this is a great and valuable Association that enables us to make "music together".
