ROKPA :: 10 DAY MEDITATION RETREAT IN NYANGA

We are very fortunate to have Rob Nairn, Akong Rinpoche's representative
for Africa, offer his invaluable support to all wishing to attend this retreat.
He is a renowned meditation guide who has led retreats in Southern Africa
and America for over 20 years.
'Regard joining the retreat as an act of kindness to yourself.'
Retreats are traditional in Buddhism. They offer us 'time out' to ground
ourselves in the peaceful seclusion of the countryside. Most people find
that they don't really get into meditation until they have done a retreat.
It is of great benefit to try and attend the whole retreat, but if you can
only manage part of it, try to make it at the beginning. All attending will
be encouraged to observe 'noble silence' . The daily programme will comprise
sitting and walking meditation, morning meditation instruction, afternoon
yoga sessions, time for resting, relaxing or walking as well as time for
private interviews with Rob.. In the evenings, following a light supper,
there will be lectures, discussions and question time, group meditation,
and the day ends with an optional group Tibetan compassion practice. There
is a resident cook who prepares delicious vegetarian meals.
VENUE: Mare Dam Rest Camp, Nyanga National Park.
(Shared rooms in simple cottages set in beautiful surroundings).
COST: Full retreat - $50 000 (or $45 000 if payment received in full before
30 September).
Part retreat - $6 000 per night.
Deposit - $15 000 (non-refundable to be paid by 30 September).

Children classes are held on Saturdays
from 9am to 11am at a fee of z$15,000 per term.
The Alliance Française offers classes from beginners to advanced level. Classes are held twice a week: Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. A test free of charge can be organized before your registration in order to know your exact level of proficiency.
You have a choice to come either in the morning (8:30 – 10:30) or in the evening (5:15 – 7:15). We also have intensive classes for those wishing to learn faster (Monday to Friday) and teenagers classes on Fridays from 3pm to 5pm. A private tuition programme is also available for $ 80 000 a package of 10 hours to be planned with your teachers.
Children classes are held on Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am at a fee of $30 000 per term.
Our fees for one session are $ 30 000 for normal classes (twice by 2 hours per week) in the morning, $ 40 000 for normal classes in the evening and $ 60 000 for intensive classes in the morning and $ 70 000 for intensive classes in the evening.
Also on offer for beginners is an afternoon class (Monday & Wednesday) 2 pm to 4pm at a cost of $ 30 000. We also offer Saturday classes for beginners only from 9am to 11 am for $ 25 000 per term. The books (Tempo 1 & 2) are on sale for $ 50 000.

The group was formed in 1961. At the monthly meetings demonstrations and instruction on Floral Art are given. Periodically talks are given on
various aspects of Gardening. Members are encouraged to enter arrangements in the Internal Competition but this is not complusory. Constructive critiscism is given on the arrangements by a Floral Art Judge thus providing tuition. There is a small entrance charge. Refreshments will be served. We welcome new comers.

JAZZ classes with Ian Mills are for
2 hours on Sats 9:30-11:30am.
A term-long, weekly, two hour course that will trace the history of jazz
from its early beginnings in Africa and 19th Century American plantation
slaves.
The academic side of the course includes the use of chord symbols,
chord construction, its development, and the development of blues, a
cornerstone of jazz music.
There will be workshop instruction on instrumental technique, including
percussion, melodic and chordal improvisation. It is intended to form, from
the student body, instrumental groups that will reflect the development
of
jazz from the "trad" era to modern "chamber jazz'' . A key
objective is
the formation of a ZCM big band of the kind recently seen at the opening
of
the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA).
Harare based musician, writer, and journalist, Ian Mills will direct
the course, with the assistance of local and visiting jazz musicians.
