DRUNK TAKES TEMPEST BY STORM

Viv Hamblin

The Speciss School production of The Tempest, directed by Diana Wilson was sold out by Saturday. In the Adrian Stanley Room at Reps, the architecture of the production was stunning. From Prospero's (Tim Water
meyer) opening pivotal power point, to the giant puppets dance, each manipulated by two puppeteers, to Calibans hovel below, the audience were wielded through the full scale of events.

As a rite of passage for the Upper 6th it reminded me of how many ages of
man/woman 17year olds can project into, and thereby being a school
production became an asset. Nic Mayger, as a drunken Stefano warming to a dream of power, pitched us from bass to falsetto into the local bar. AEL
readers should remember that Diana Wilson was the director of the other
major vehicle for actors offered this year in (see review) Accidental Death of An Anarchist.
