KING BEE Blues Band
King Bee is a 3 piece blues band featuring Andy Milburn on lead guitar,
vocals, slide guitar & blues harp, with Sid Rogers on Bass & Neville
Mannington on Rhythm Guitar.
They set out to create an authentic & original blues sound with a direct
emotional appeal and after some months working on their material, have been
performing successfully to a very wide variety of audiences for almost a
year.
From the start they established some basic ground rules. Keep it
simple and don’t play too loud. People should be able to talk without
shouting into each other’s ears. The arrangements are tight, but with that
loose, improvised feel which lies at the heart of all true blues music.
Variety is essential, blues songs don’t have to all sound the same and
always the vocals, the words, a direct appeal to the heart.

THE BIRSEN STRING LIBRARY
The late Leo Birsen, who was a notable local violinist and teacher, whom
many will remember with affection, died in Harare in 1992. In 1996 The Leo
Birsen Trust established, in his memory, an annual String Competition (won

The Leo Birsen Trust is now making his extensive library of string
sheet music available for lending to anyone interested: performer, teacher,
student or listener. The collection includes 250 pieces for violin and
piano, some 50 violin sonatas, 40 concertos, studies and teaching music,
works for viola and ‘cello and a considerable quantity of chamber music:
piano trios and quartets, string quartets, quintets, sextets and other
ensembles.
This music, which is in good condition, is now housed with the Harare
City Orchestra’s orchestral library at Mr. Auchterlonie’s rooms at 2, Josiah
