Warwick, the organiser of ART IN THE GARDEN, writes:
"I am a casual artist who has always planned to organize an art exhibition
here in Zim. but have never go round to it. I paint very bright pictures that
most poeple do not like, It relieves my stress and I also enjoy doing it. I
got the idea of holding regular exhibitions in a garden or park from Pietermaritzburg in RSA , they have artists displaying their works every second Sunday. Sort of like a flea market idea, but I want this to be a bit more upmarket.

My arts back ground is that I am self taught , I also do wood carving
and stone sculptures (Hearldry Carvings by commission). Most of my paintings are given to relatives as presents or they have been bought. I have done a few comission works . One of my recent paintings is hanging in Doctor Grabolska's waiting rooms.
This exhibition intersts me as I will get to meet some more artists in Zim and have a chance for the artists that are not that well known to exhibit some of their works.

This exhibition will benefit the artists themselves as they will get a
chance to expose themselves as artists and they will be on hand to explain
their paintings and also get orders from the public who will come to this
exhibition. The charities will only benifit from the exposure at the gate
and they will only be getting a percentage of the gate takings.

Eskbank is the venue as that is where Cherylino's restaurant is situated, The
proprietor of the restaurant is a good friend of mine she was
aproached to do the catering at the exhibition when I was going to have it
at my house and she said that I could have it out at the restaurant in the
beautiful garden, as there is plenty of safe parking , She will obviously
benifit from the public exposure at the exhibition, She deserves that at the
least as she has busted her back to get her little restaurant up and
running. ".

ART IN THE GARDEN May 2001... a comment sent in....
"Well done to Warwick Neville for organising a splendid exhibition at the
Esbank Farm Kiosk. It was a lovely setting, the work was most interesting
and it was a good opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work
with them.

It was great to have such a broad spectrum of work : There were
Harry's enormous and amazing sculptures ( good luck in Toronto to Harry!)
and Zodwa's equally large and vibrant oils, Marge and Pat's lovely miniature
water-colours, Conrad's very detailed almost surreal oil paintings. Then
there was Shadrick's interesting idea of mini sculptures mounted on frames
and the inspiring abstracts of Warwick Neville himself. These works
reminded me of something I read recently, written by Johan Degenaar, "Art is
material structured in such a way that it moves the imagination". Very true
and I do think that much of the work exhibited achieved this moving of the
imagination!

I do, however, have one criticism and that is the removal of work from
the exhibition as it was bought which means that afternoon visitors were
not able to view the exhibition in its entirety. While I do understand that
there are logistical problems involved I do think this deserves some thought
for future exhibitions". Jane Kably

Warwick responds: ".. buyers took the works home immediately because of the current petrol shortage in Zim."
