DJINN
a digital photo exibition
@ Harare National gallery by Azar Khan
Djinn opened at the National Gallery
on the 24th July 2001 and ran until
the 28th August 2001, it featured images of cover models Liam Paterson
and Zane
Halberg. The exhibition was a photographic exhibition taken with
digital cameras and then manipulated with the use of computers and digital
printers to achieve some amazing results. Azar writes, "While the
exhibition may not be every persons three wishes, it certainly is worth
a view as it does go down
in history as the first digital art exhibition to be held at the National
Art Gallery of Zimbabwe"
Djinn are mythical creatures made of fire that originate mainly from the
Middle East. The majority of people know Djinn as Genies, like the one
in
Aladdins lamp.
"I chose Djinn as my first exhibition
as they had always intrigued me as a
little boy. I saw them as magical almost cosmic creatures that were very
different to the fairy stories we read and wanted to show the world my
interpretations of a Genie. I have concentrated the exhibition mainly
on
Flower Genies but have also incorporated a regular genie in the
lamp as
part of exhibition too, so as to encompass the various facets of what
I
believe they would look like. Azhar Khan
