Beverley came to Zimbabwe
in 1996 from Nottingham in the

for EMACA Visual Arts in Nottingham (East Midlands African
Caribbean Arts) as a Visual Arts Officer, curating exhibitions in
galleries and non-gallery venues in the East Midlands and
throughout the United Kingdom.
She is a freelance adviser, and has worked at the National Arts
Council of Zimbabwe as an Arts Adviser, the editor of the Council's
Ngoma Magazine and has been a serious potter in Zimbabwe for the
past 2 years. Her ceramics are produced at the Mutopo Pottery,
Hatfield, Harare, Zimbabwe and she teaches at Chinimberi Pottery
in Mbare, Zimbabwe. Her work includes producing individual pieces
and thrown domestic-ware for exhibition and sales.
"I like throwing, experimenting
with different textures and surfaces
on the pots. I am currently working with the 'traditional form' of the
'hari' (which means pot in shona). I also combine different materials
like copper and stainless steel wire which melt down and gives a
blueish glaze to the pots. The types of clay I use are stoneware
(a mixture of red clay, Zimbabwe gwaii clay) and some porcelain".
She has exhibited her ceramics and paintings in the United
Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
Her website
is intended to focus attention on Zimbabwean Potters
& Ceramic artists who may send her photos & contact details for
display, already there is information from Lisa McCintosh, Tendai
Gumbo, Marjorie Wallace & Sue McCormick.
