NATIONAL BALLET OUT-REACH PROGRAMME
National Ballet Of Zimbabwe, East Road (behind Reps Theatre)
The Outreach Project at National Ballet was started in 1983
involving 2 or 3 schools (one of which was Moffat School).
Students were initially "bussed in" for classes with teachers
like Betty Briars & Doreen Aitcheson at the NationalBallet Centre
in Avondale.
In 1986 some teachers travelled weekly to Mbare and Mufakose
the project was called Vana Vanotamba. It was in 1989 that
Viv & Chris
Hamblin expanded the Outreach Project
to include weekly classes in Tafara, Mabvuku, Highlands,
Warren Park, Kwadzana and the setting up of the Saturday
City Youth Group .
This lead to the Dance Foundation Course in 1989 which
trained most of the first group of dancers that formed TUMBUKA.
Others from the course have been teaching on the Outreach
Programme ever since, which now includes classes for
students with "special needs" at Jairos Jiri, Emerald Hill
School for the Deaf & St Catherine's.

classes are available.There are classes and dance events most days of
the week.
