Celebrity Subscription Concerts
(Celebs) Membership
Celebs subscribers are invited to renew
their membership for the current year 2012, and regular concert-goers
are invited to consider taking out a subscription. Celebs relies very
heavily on having a solid subscription base to enable the organisers to
budget for the visiting artistes.
There are two levels of subscription:
1) Red Carpet Membership: RC subscribers have their own pre-allocated
seat at every concert promoted by Celebs and are invited to the
after-party to meet the artiste(s) at every concert.
2) Ordinary Membership: this gives subscribers a free pre-allocated
seat for four concerts of the year, thus saving $10.
We have kept the subscriptions at the same levels as in 2011 and they
are as follows:
RC: $100 per individual subscriber and $180 for a couple; Ordinary
Members: $30.
Please contact the Membership Secretary, Véronique Wakerley at <mailto:vwakerley@zol.co.zw>,

ZIMBABWE-RELATED EVENTS OUTSIDE ZIMBABWE
Between
the Sheets: Artists' Books exhibition in Western Australia
(to 5 February)
The following Zimbabwean artists are participating:
Arthur Azevedo, Virginia Chihota, Tafadzwa Gwetai, Masimba Hwati, Helen
Lieros, Wallen Mapondera, Gina Maxim, Munyaradzi Mazarire and
Gareth Nyandoro
The exhibition, held in partnership with the City of Swan, is to be
held in two locations concurrently:
94 Stirling Highway, North Fremantle, Western Australia 6159
Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC), 276 Great Eastern
Highway (Cnr Cale St), Midland
Daily 10 am – 4 pm. The exhibition runs until 5 February.
>, <http://www.galleryeast.com.au
>
Although there are major exhibitions and collections of artists' books
internationally and in the Eastern States of Australia, Between the
Sheets, will be the first comprehensive exhibition of its type created
and held in Western Australia. Forty-three artists from Europe, the UK,
Africa, the USA, Singapore and Australia have created fifty-seven works
for this exhibition.
Between the Sheets: Artists' Books 2012, is the second collaboration
between Gallery East and the City of Swan and builds on the successful
partnership that brought the paintings and drawings of
Indonesian artist, Pranoto, to a wider Western Australian public
through an exhibition of his work held concurrently at the Midland
Junction Art Centre and at Gallery East, North Fremantle, in June 2011.
Artists' books challenge our notions of the traditional book. Books as
art objects become more than containers of information, but works of
art in themselves. While many artists are concerned with content,
whether it be images, ideas or inventions, others use a huge
variety of media, shapes and structures to create books the like of
which we have never seen before.
Artists' books attract printmakers, photographers, wordsmiths, textile
artists, painters, sculptors and digital artists. They appeal to many
kinds of artists with many different styles and purposes, representing
both traditional and contemporary art practices. To make a
book takes many dedicated hours, a high level of craftsmanship, a love
of materials and a vivid imagination. What artists' books
have in common is the energy, innovation
and the 'edge' found in art works that inspire and captivate
the viewer.
