"Art to Wake the Soul"  (Best in Show) by Yvonne Eylers

WAFA ( World Association of Flower Arrangers ) held their 7th World Show - "FLORAMONDI" in the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, from 13-16 June 2002.See pictures from WAFA 2002
It is held every 3 years in a different country and this was the 7th time in its 21 year history.
To reflect the truly global nature of the event there were 26 international Honorary exhibits  from member countries of WAFA.   All 5 continents were represented and each design reflected the style and culture and flora of its country of origin.   These exhibits are non-competitive.
Despite the troubles in Zimbabwe, seven   flower arrangers felt that they should continue to represent their country with an Honorary exhibit and also take part in the competitive classes.   All  plant material needed was taken from Zimbabwe!   The Honorary exhibit  interpreted "Balancing" Rocks and a Quiver Tree, which are typical of the country's landscape.
There were 761 competitive exhibits in 36 classes and Zimbabwe did very well:
1st in her class "Art to Wake the Soul" and BEST IN SHOW - Yvonne Eylers
1st in her class "Outside Interest" and BEST USE OF FOLIAGE - Kath Quail
Mention in her class "Flirtation with Surrealism" - Mandy Roper
