WAFA (World Association of Flower Arrangers) held their 7th World Show - "FLORAMONDI" in the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, from 13-16 June 2002. It is held every 3 years in a different country and this was the 7th time in its 21 year history.
To reflect the truly global nature of the event there were 26 international Honorary exhibits from member countries of WAFA. All 5 continents were represented and each design reflected the style and culture and flora of its country of origin. These exhibits are non-competitive.

Despite the troubles in Zimbabwe, seven flower arrangers felt that they should continue to represent their country with an Honorary exhibit and also take part in the competitive classes. All plant material needed was taken from Zimbabwe! The Honorary exhibit interpreted "Balancing" Rocks and a Quiver Tree, which are typical of the country's landscape.

In the Matopo Hills southern Zimbabwe, granite rocks rise in splendid confusion. Three thousand million years have passed since these great masses of granite surged upward and then cooled. Over aeons, some masses fractured and weathering caused them to fragment into oddly assorted shapes; many are fanciful in outline and precariously balanced.
The Quiver Tree ( The Kokerboom) stands out as a feature of interest in the bare landscape in which they grow. They store water and can resist drought for years. The bushmen fashioned quivers for arrows from the hollowed out brancesn hence the name Quiver Tree.
